How to get to Islay

You can reach Islay from the mainland either by ferry or by air from Glasgow airport.

By Ferry

Caledonian MacBrayne operate a ferry service between Kennacraig and Port Ellen or Port Askaig on the island. Full timetables for the ferry service and booking details are available on the Calmac website. During peak season it is advisable to book your desired ferry early to ensure the best sailing times to suit your trip. Scottish Citylink operate a bus service from Glasgow to Kennacraig which are timed to coincide with ferry crossings.

By Plane

Flybe fly from Glasgow airport to Glenegedale, Islay’s airport, just over five miles from Bowmore. The flight time is around 30 minutes. Timetables for these and other flights are available on the Flybe website or you can contact Flybe Reservations by phone on 0871 700 2000.

By Car

Kennacraig ferry terminal is located on the Kintyre peninusula. From Glasgow take the A82 through the Trossachs National Park and past Loch Lomond, then follow the A83 around Loch Fyne heading to Tarbert. Kennacraig is located approximately 6 miles south of Tarbert. Travel time from Glasgow by car is approximately 2 hours. You can then take your car across to Islay on the ferry or park it at the ferry terminal

Directions to the B&B

From Port Ellen (or Airport)

Follow the road (A846) up to Bowmore. Travel through Bowmore village towards Bridgend. Turn left at the T junction at Bridgend (just after the Spar) heading towards Bruichladdich (A847). Follow this road for 5 miles. Once you have passed the turning to Kilchoman you will pick up our sign on the right hand side. Follow the lane to the top.

From Port Askaig

Follow the road (A846) from Port Askaig to Bridgend. Turn right at the T Junction at Bridgend heading towards Bruichladdich (A847). Follow this road for 5 miles. Once you have passed the turning to Kilchoman you will pick up our sign on the right hand side. Follow the lane to the top.

Kentraw Farmhouse is located in an elevated position overlooking the shores of Loch Indaal, approximately a mile out of Bruichladdich village. The b&b is located half an hour from the two ferry terminals; Port Ellen and Port Askaig, and is accessed via a private lane.
